Beatification of a Maltese YCW Chaplain

Chaplaincy/ AccompagnementPosted by Vanessa Caruana Wed, November 03, 2010 15:33:45

Dear friends,

ZHN Malta has great news to share with you. Read article below!

Fr. Michael, a Gozitan Priest for Sainthood!

During Mass at the Cathedral of Gozo (the sister island of the Maltese archipelago) on the occasion of the feast of All Saints on Monday night, the Bishop of Gozo Mgr. Mario Grech announced that it will start the diocesan process to evaluate the possibility of elements of sanctification in the life of Fr Michael Attard, who died six years ago. In short, this is the beginning of the process of beatification of this Gozitan priest who lived between 1933 and 2004.

It seems that in the case of Attard, there is a hint of holiness after some people gave evidence that they hold to Fr Michael Attard as a person who had advanced on the path of perfection.

The Bishop Grech himself on Monday appointed Fr Tony Sciberras Postulatur MSSP and Fr. Daniel Xerri, Rector of the Gozo Seminary as Vice-Postulatur for the cause of Fr Michael Attard. This wonderful news for the diocese of Gozo and the Maltese Islands by Bishop Grech was in the presence of Mgr Joseph Attard, the Archpriest of the Cathedral Church of Victoria, brother of Fr Michael .

Fr Michael Attard, a known confessor, was born in Nadur Gozo on 1st October 1933 and died at the age of 71 years on the 30 July 2004. He is the son of Koronat Attard, who was deputy in Parliament on the district town.

Fr Michael was responsible for the Young Christian Workers in Nadur, and was highly conscious of the social problems of his time. He published the book "Preparing for the working life" that was the first publication of Lumen Christi Publications.

YCW Welcomes Pope Benedict to the UK!

News of MovementsPosted by Emma Stradling Thu, September 16, 2010 21:55:29
The YCW is delighted to welcome the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI to our country as he begins today the first ever state visit of a pontiff to the UK.

Representatives of our movement from across England and Wales will be gathering in London this weekend to attend the papal Mass being celebrated at Westminster Cathedral and the Vigil of Prayer at Hyde Park.

Those attending are full of anticipation and excitement as they look forward to being in the presence of the Holy Father and listening to his message.

Emma Stradling, YCW National President, said of the visit, ‘We hope that through the message that the Pope brings, young people across the country may come to realise their true dignity and worth and their valued place within the Church’.

The papal visit comes as the new YCW European campaign, ‘Young People Stand up for Dignity’ begins to build momentum. Emma continued, ‘In many of his writings, Pope Benedict has stressed the importance of human dignity. This, therefore, should give the isolated young people of our society the courage to stand up and ensure that their voices are heard’.

Chris Pinchbeck, a member of a local group in Filey, will have the honour representing all of the YCW’s from across the UK as he takes up a very special position on the steps of Westminster Cathedral to welcome the Pope as he leaves the cathedral, ready to greet the crowds of young people assembled in piazza. We wish all of those who are attending the papal events a blessed and fruitful experience.

The full report of the YCW’s involvement in the papal visit will follow shortly...
